All spinners are inherently unstable especially when transitioning across changing surfaces say tile to carpet or getting on a moving walkway. I have witnessed many tumbles caused by spinners in these situations including a women breaking her hip on a jet bridge at LHR and a man going headfirst onto the people mover at MIA knocked unconscious with a major laceration to his head. Never happens with a classic 2 wheel dragger. Also the exposed wheels on spinners a just begging to get snapped off by the baggage smashers. I see orphaned spinner wheels on the baggage carousel frequently. My hack is to get a quality 2 wheeler from say Travel-pro and replace the wheels with high density urethane in-line skate wheels. I've done this to mine and my wife's Travel pro bold 22 inch carry-on. It is quick, easy and inexpensive upgrade and is life altering. You do not appreciate how soul sucking and draining the clack, clack, clack of hard plastic wheels wear on you as the shock wave travels up your arm. The damage is insidious and cumulative. Slap on these sweet wheels and you glide along in stealth mode silent like a ninja. You can thank me later. You can order them from Amazon including ABEC bearings for what you spend at Starbucks on a trans-con itinerary.
