I renewed my OCI with VFS New York earlier this year. It went fine, although it took 6 weeks which I think is just too long for a relatively simple process. Simply acknowledging receipt of my application took VFS more than 3 weeks. In my case at least they sent me timely e-mail updates for significant changes (e.g., "document printed"). But I have heard many complain that months can go by without a status update, or that VFS rejects documents for minor "problems" with their interpretation of the rules and then doesn't clearly explain how to fix the problems. YMMV.
