No, at online check-in, you would be able to select your seat without paying anything. Seats are not auto-assigned unless you don't choose anything at OLCI and leave it to the airport agent's discretion.
As a QRPC Platinum, I have free seat selection starting from booking so I can't comment as a first hand experienced person; although, average QR passengers tend not to pay for advance seat selection, most of them even do not check-in online, so you would most likely be able to get your choice of seat ( forward cabin window, aisle ) during OLCI. It's a very rare possibility ( probably less than 0.01% that you'll end up with a middle seat if you check-in online at a reasonable time and select your seats.
