DME is certainly ahead of SVO by about a hundred years. However, the competition is hotting up... VKO is being redeveloped, and judging by the way they are chopping down forests and building access roads, it's going to be even brighter and better than DME... VKO management has a stated policy of drawing business from SVO, and I suspect we will end up with 3 international airports in Moscow..
As an aside, my friend regularly flies Aeroflot through SVO because the fares are about $50 cheaper than on the Western carriers, but I think that is a false economy. If you are unlucky you can be waiting for 3 hours
to get through passport control at SVO, in a cramped airless area where you have to stand on a staircase in a chaotic line to reach the passport booths.
Give me DME anytime. ^ ^
