Satellite internet service is gate to gate. Once you board, put your device in Airplane mode and turn on your wifi. If you see "Alaska-Wifi" in the wifi list, you are on a Satellite equiped bird and will be able to connect while at the gate. If there is no wifi before the 10K bell, it isn't satellite equipped but you will still get internet access over land within the boundaries published. I have found it to continue to work for about 30 minutes while flying south of the border into Mexico & Westbound over the Pacific. Eastbound from the Islands can vary a bit depending on the flight path and where the aircraft meets the coast.

I was connected with internet access at the gate on my last two A321 flights.
