AMEX PLAT (Personal) Trip Interruption Benefit/Coverage
Nasty situation this morning. Had award ticket early this morning on DL from BOS to AUA via ATL. BOS to ATL was delayed and we hadn't even left for the airport. Option given to rebook wouldn't have worked as it was 1.5 hrs prior to original departure time (we would have needed to know to wake up earlier). After an hour, finally got a hold of DL agent and they could not re-book us on DL or any other carrier to get to our destination today. Nowhere was the reason for the delay given. Turns out the crew "timed out" because their arrival aircraft got in late (presumably that flight was delayed due to weather as there was a bad rainstorm). We assumed it was weather and thus that our AMEX Platinum trip interrruption insurance applied (after calling the AMEX benefit provider on this). Went ahead and purchased an alternate flight. Finally got a hold of Delta again (another hour gone by) who told us about the crew time out reason. Anybody have experience with making a claim for something like this? Assuming weather was the reason the crew got in late and therefore timed out, anybody have any experience making a claim for something like this? Your help is greatly appreciated!
