If you can check it in for the flight to JFK, just ‘forget’ to collect it. It’ll be stored in the AA baggage office along with all the misconnects and you can collect it on return. It’s more common in the US for bags to fly without pax than in Europe, so the process is fairly slick.
I wouldn’t do it for an international arrival to the US, but domestic, no problem.
i have done this but for stupid reasons like forgetting i checked a bag or that i checked more than one bag (distracted on the phone both times) or landing late and skipping dropping my bags at home and going straight to a dinner and collecting bags the next day. all that happens on domestic flights is it gets pulled off the belt and put into AA's storage/lost luggage room. so you can just return later that day (they have operating hours) and go to the lost luggage and collect it there. more risky because any number of small things could happen but they are reliable and easy to deal with.
