Given "evening" I am assuming AM means morning but I agree with the other posters that this could have been less ambiguous

Have you priced out the morning AAA-LAX and the evening LAX-CCC either together (maybe with ITA Matrix + the userscript or bookwithmatrix) or as separate one-ways?

Officially SDC is supposed to follow fare rules, but agents have been known to ignore this when doing SDC so you have some chance of booking the all-evening itinerary and getting a DM agent to move AAA-LAX to the morning. If not you could also go to the airport and try standing by for the earlier AAA-LAX flight.
