There are a couple of Marriott properties on Chongming Island. Usually you can rent bikes, etc. and they have lounges.
For resorts close to (within) Shanghai, Sheshan would be a good choice, but there is a dearth of Marriotts there. The Sofitels, etc. are good there.
Again for any of these, going when local schools are not on vacation is key.
