Flying AAA-LAX-CCC. The ticket I want to fly has an illegal connection but DL will let me book the evening version of that routing with about a 90 minute connect in LAX. I would like to hop on the AM AAA-LAX which arrives 5 minutes before an earlier LAX-CCC departs. My hope is AAA-LAX gets in early enough that I can go to the gate and have them put me on that earlier LAX-CCC. No other LAX-CCCs exist between the 5 minute connect and the one I’d be booked on 8 hours later. Worst case I get to enjoy LA for a few hours.

So my questions are this:

Will the Diamond line SDC me onto the AM AAA-LAX even if the connection time exceeds 4 hours? If not, can the airport do this confirmed or only standby at gate?
