But like I stated - it doesn't extend the useful life of the plane. Obviously with aircrafts there are pretty specific guidelines into how to handle these, and it's probably a specialized area of accountants who do the books and audits on airlines because of all the nuances that are not like normal industry.
I don't disagree that it doesn't extend the life of the plane, but I'm not sure why you're focused on that. This is actually not very specialized, and you would see similar rules across other assets for refurbishments and major maintenance expenses, whether it's an aircraft, a ship, a building, a nuclear reactor, an industrial printing press, it doesn't matter.
