Generally you can get an AUP on BA metal sold as AA. Very occasionally there are ticketing problems that stop this from happening, so that's a risk. My understanding is that generally you will get the higher TP level, however if something goes wrong with the processing aspect, it's down to AA to agree to the higher TP award, and sometimes they fall back on their own logic of not giving extra Avios/TPs to upgrades. So if you see an AUP at an attractive price on an AA marketed fare, I think realistically you best regard it purely on the immediate benefits, with the TPs and Avios being a bonus if things go well.
