Conversation never even got that far. I simply stated I had a separate UA ticket that I would like to have bags through-checked, they simply said no before even looking at any of the paperwork, so baggage allowance issue was moot. And I didn't pursue any further.

But good to know that AI will generally through-check when there aren't baggage allowance issues or discrepancies.
