Paper tickets may be no more... but to CWS’s group of ‘things that haven’t changed’ we can definitely add airline tickets, at least for legacy/network airlines. Behind the scenes the new-fangled e-tickets are handled exactly the same as paper tickets of old, with exactly the same fields present. Ever wondered why oneworld RTW tickets are limited to 16 sectors? Because it’s 4 ticket books x 4 coupons each, stapled together, which was always the maximum. A ‘surface sector’ still needs a blank coupon so all the cities can be linked in sequence. And if you ever get to look in the GDS at your ticket record absolutely do... it’s all still there, right down to the ‘endorsement’ box that CWS talked about above (albeit nowadays mostly populated with ‘non endorsable, BA only’).
