If you have a TSU, yes. But you could also just split the booking yourself, book the 6 nights, apply the TSU and then book the other night.
The "merger" is more to do when you show up at the hotel (sans TSU) and ask to be upgraded even though the upgraded room is only available for part of your stay. The property may choose to upgrade you - but that's down to them being generous/accommodating rather than you having two separate bookings. Usually they'll treat consecutive reservations as a single stay, partly because it's easier for them but also because, in most cases, it's easier/preferable for the guest too (since most normal guest
