While the fares by booking class for lie-flat and non-lie-flat flights/aircraft are identical, the lie-flat flights could have been sold out of lower fare buckets on OP's dates, forcing them to buy a higher fare bucket and thus pay a higher fare; or the OP could have been comparing UA fares to fares on other airlines that serve OGG-SFO using non-lie-flat aircraft (e.g., HA).
