Anybody worked out best practices for this? Same flights now lower fare.

I called AA. Agent put me on hold to speak with fare desk. Came back after a couple of minutes and said a credit for the difference will be placed in wallet. 2 hours later I don’t see any change. Original reservation still show original price and no evidence it is pending exchange. Original ticket number shows status OK in receipt page. I was expecting a status of exchanged.
