The issue is being unable to refund the air tickets, but being able to change them for a future date by which airfares might be substantially higher plus the hassle of booking vacation time then wasting it because it's too late to change. Aside from that, the long drive to the nearest approved facility that would be able to virtually guarantee results in time is not really doable for traveler #2. They work in a hospital which could do the test, but even though the hospital lab can certainly complete a PCR test very competently, they are not on the "approved list", which makes this option for both of us a no-go.
It just makes the entire package too much of a hassle for right now....but I can just taste those malasadas from Leonards that I always pick up after walking back from the Diamond Head trail (my reward for making it up and down in 30 minutes or less).
