I've spent the night at the Mercure more time than I can count. I generally give the KLM lounges a miss, but back when the entrance to the non-Schengen lounge was still located directly opposite the Mercure, I would usually pop in late evening to read a newspaper and have a drink. Invariably, I would only be admitted because I had arrived that day on a KL flight, and was a Plat. On the occasions I inadvertently showed my boarding card for my flight the next morning, I was initially denied entry.

Are you saying that the AMS lounge can be used as an arrival lounge for Elite+ members? I was never aware of this perk.

I often popped twice in the lounge during overnight AMS transfers (after landing to cool down before the late downtown meeting, and in the morning before flying away). I'm pretty sure it worked well even before I was Plat, at least I can confirm I was never denied entry on the day before. The only time my boarding pass didn't scan immediately was because my outbound flight on the next day was non-Schengen, and the check-in machine was suggesting I go to lounge 52 instead. But the clerk let me in without having to show any credentials.
