Cash refund on international direct flight changed to connecting flight?

We have non refundable, international round trip tickets traveling to and from London in June which we will probably end up cancelling. Our outbound flight is one connection on AA and I and am pretty sure that AA will fly those flights as planned, since they are flying them right now. The return was a direct flight to our home city on British Airways (all booked on one ticket through American). I am almost 100% certain the return direct flight will be cancelled by BA and American will reroute us on a connecting itinerary. It looks like they could do so without moving our arrival or departure time by more than 4 hours which would prevent us from qualifying for a cash refund because of a schedule change. My question is, will a reroute from a direct flight to a connecting flight on the return leg enable us to cancel the whole itinerary for a cash refund?
