My helmet, goggles, snow pants, neck gaiter etc were all in my checked bags. If it had been just the skis I would have rented for the day.
All replaceable and reimburseable by UA or your travel insurance.
Not that it helps after-the-fact, but for the benefit of others, on those rare occasions when I absolutely have to check, this kind of stuff goes in the carry-on just because it is such a hassle to replace and so nececssarry to the experience.
