Many hotels have cut the number of daily room cleaners/cleaning hours for which they pay. That has consequences about how soon a previously occupied room gets cleaned and made available for another guest.
Some hotels may have a practice of trying to keep rooms empty for a period of time between guests to let the room "air" longer between guests and perhaps reduce liability risk in case someone claims to have caught Covid-19 on site. Some hotels try to keep some floors in the hotel unavailable unless there is a high demand that justifies opening a floor closed due to low demand during this pandemic.
