I need to echo the other comments - what you're doing is throwing away a huge amount of money to achieve status that is essentially almost worthless at this point.

I have Lifetime Platinum - but with the collapse of service levels, the demotion of Platinum status to nothing more than a pedestrian level well below Titanium/Ambassador, and the overall reduction in quality at Marriott across the board, I would strongly suggest doing what I, as a Platinum, have been doing for the last year.

Embrace free-agency. Find a hotel that you like, book the room category you want, buy the services you want, and don't give Marriott credit or money that it does not deserve.

As a Platinum member, in the last year, the brand has basically told me to go pound sand when it comes to receiving even the most basic amenities I am owed with my status - so I told Marriott to do the same, and enjoyed countless pleasant experiences with free hot breakfasts at Holiday Inn Express hotels during our local road trips, and nicer independent or other-brand hotels when we wanted a better experience. I've been essentially Marriott-free for a year and perfectly fine with it.

So as far as your plan is concerned - just don't do it. You're wasting your time and your money.
