Returning to Breck and avoiding the Traffic
After freezing temperatures crippled much of the metroplex, Friday finally brought about the much needed thaw and another Colorado ski trip for the GF and I. Before leaving, we shut off the water to the house as we didn’t want any surprises from damaged pipes thawing out while out of town.
The drive to the airport looked a bit different than usual with snow still covering some of the roads and snow/ice piled up on the curbs and medians of others, but 15 minutes after leaving the house we were pulling back into the Love Field parking garage to begin another trip to Colorado!
Southwest Airlines
WN 44
DAL-DEN (Dallas Love Field - Denver International)
Seat: 14C (Economy)
B737-700 (N461WN)
Scheduled: 7:00p-8:00p
Actual: 7:03p-8:04p
Once inside we quickly checked out bags and made our way through security. No line at security as our flight to Denver was one of the last flights of the day. After a quick stop at Cantina Laredo for a beer and guacamole it was time to board. The flight was uneventful and we landed in Denver on time with no wait for a gate this time. Baggage claim was somewhat chaotic as WN had 8-9 flights being unloaded on the same belt. Fortunately the wait for bags wasn’t too long and we hopped on the National shuttle to go and pick up our car.

After arriving at National is where the real fun began. The EE was bare with a few Mustang convertibles, some assorted FWD sedans and one RWD Mazda crossover. Exactly what you want when driving up into the mountains. The lot attendant and I were talking about upgrades when there was some sort of commotion inside with a customer yelling at the counter agent so he just tossed me the keys to one of the BMW 228i xDrives in the premier selection and ran off inside. After loading our luggage we headed off to the exit booth where someone had rented a 15 passenger van that was too tall to make it through the booth. They ended up getting it stuck on the upper support for the booth. Not sure why National is renting vehicles that are too big to get out of their own lot. After getting another booth open we were finally headed up I-70 to Breckenridge. We learned from our last trip trying to drive up on Saturday morning. We made great time and arrived at the house an hour and 45 minutes after pulling out of National DEN.
That’s not gonna fit
