I guess that's where we all benefit from the experience of others on Flyertalk. We know that BA tries to impose its own limit of £200 a night for DOC accommodation. Whether that's possible (some up the thread assert it is) or reasonable is a point for anyone claiming to argue with BA.

Exactly the sort of course of action I'd take. I'd be considering any defraying of my additional costs by the airline a bonus, to be resolved at a later date.
Intrigued if one did take this course of action whether the claim to BA would be for the cost of the additional flights, or just the difference in cost between your original flight and the new one? Does making your own flight arrangements also absolve BA of any Duty of Care obligation?
