Help w/my dilemma - Dublin, Ireland or somewhere else for long weekend?

We're looking at spending a long weekend in Dublin, Ireland (mostly because it has some branches of my son's favorite clothing store). My husband's not real excited about this ("I'd rather be in Paris"), and from reading some FTers' comments, Dublin's not that great a place.

We are booked at the Westin, which everyone seems to love. But is there more to love about Dublin than just this hotel and my son's clothing store?

Is it a fun city? Can we enjoy ourselves for three or four days? Or would you go to Paris and tell your kid to find some clothes at the Gap?

(Keep in mind it's not as though my husband doesn't get to Paris every year anyway, but we've never been to Dublin.)
