I have an avios ticket (booked with a 2-4-1 voucher) with a surface segment. The outbound leg (already flown) was LHR-MEX. We then got to Sao Paulo (GRU) on a separate booking/ticket. Currently in Sao Paulo and have the return leg (direct GRU-LHR) of the avios ticket booked for mid-February.

I am assuming that return leg gets cancelled (because of the flight bans imposed by both Brazil and UK). What I am trying to understand is below (I am unsure, as have seen comments that BA treats avios tickets differently sometimes):
- once I get the cancellation email, do I have to call BA straight away and decide on the new return date, or can I wait a month or so (all within the ticket validity period) before calling them?

- when I do call them, assuming there are still no direct flights available, will they rebook me onto Iberia via Madrid (still flying at the moment)?

- If Iberia is not flying (eg because Spain bans Brazilian flights), will BA re-route me onto a non-Oneworld airline?

Many thanks
Iberia Plus Avios were used to book my father what turned out to be an illegal connection at LHR. Airport personnel on the day of departure rebooked him onto Star Alliance rather than forcing him to overnight at LHR.
