SO and I had a multicity booked on AA for April PIT-DFW-HND-ITM and HND-DFW-PIT for $230 total per person. Needless to say, that was a great price and we really wanted to go. A couple days ago I noticed that AA canceled the PIT-DFW-HND legs so we called and got a refund to the original credit card. I would love to have taken the flight if Japan were allowing vaccinated tourists but glad a cancelation allowed us to get a refund instead of having to tie up funds in a voucher (we don't usually fly AA). AA did not notify us of the cancelation so it might be good to keep checking for cancelled legs that would allow for requesting full refunds. In our experience, even with AA having canceled the leg, they were unable to move the booking forward without triggering a re-pricing (at best was more than $500 per person for future dates) so refunding was the best option for us.
