Canopy by Hilton, Tempe, Arizona

Stay Report - 2/13 to 2/14

Location: The hotel's location in Tempe could not be better. It's on the corner of University and Myrtle which puts it directly across the street from Arizona State University's campus and one block west of Mill Avenue, the main Tempe street for nightlife. There's also a light rail stop within a few blocks and it's a very easy drive to PHX or anywhere else in the Valley you want to go. The area around the hotel is one restaurant or bar after another and you can walk to a new Whole Foods or a CVS. As someone who attended ASU from 2003 to 2007 and has watched this area grow, I can't say enough good things about where this hotel is.

Hotel: This is only my second Canopy so I wasn't sure what to expect. As it turned out, I was impressed by everything. The hotel has a lovely lobby with work spaces, a business center, firepit, seating areas and a really nice bar and restaurant. The restaurant also has outdoor seating if you prefer. The rooftop on the 14th floor has another bar along with outdoor seating and a small outdoor pool. The elevators are key card activated too which is always a good thing. Parking is valet only and $24 a night but you can find street or lot parking with ease.

Check In: A very friendly agent checked us in, thanked my brother for being Diamond, gave us bottled water and hand sanitizer and sent us on our way. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and helpful and really pleasant to deal with.

Room: Very nice overall. Two beds with outlets next to them, large TV, a nice bathroom too though the shower could have had better water pressure. My only complaint is the barn doors everyone is going for these days. They don't keep noise out and they tend to slide back open.

Dining: The rooftop bar was doing a roaring trade when I was there and they had a good selection of alcohol and beer and helpful bartenders. Diamond breakfast is continental in the restaurant which gets you a pastry, fruit and coffee and juice or you can have entrees for $6. The menu was very impressive and I enjoyed my food.

Overall a great option and probably the best hotel now in Tempe.
