I stay in a condo near the PDC Grand Hyatt and use the beach nearby. In early December, the beach was almost not existent (erosion), but I understand it to be a bit better now. If the beach is important, I'd check new reviews on TA. In any case, both the GH, and Hilton all-inclusive, and the Hilton "Fives" are all well situated for walking, restaurants, etc. PDC does have some really good food!
Yes, I have stayed at the GH a number of times over the last year. It's actually quite amazing how quickly the beaches in PDC change - going from thin strips of sand to wide expanses, usually over the course of a couple of days (but sometimes literally overnight). The beach outside the GH is particularly prone to changes though - and it does go from being able to accommodate 4-5 rows of beach loungers to being impassable without wading through water.
