The Renaissance in Cancun is decent and has a pool. The location is in Puerto Cancun, which is at the most northern and western edge of the Hotel Zone. It's as close to downtown Cancun as you can get. It's close to one of the malls as well.

The Aloft is decent and even cheaper, but it's attached to the Convention Center, which puts in right in the middle of most of the clubs in the hotel zone. Not a great location if you're looking to avoid crowds, tourists, screaming kids, etc.

A Residence Inn just opened at the southern end of the hotel zone. It's a bit further south than the Westin. The rates seem pretty cheap, similar to Aloft and Renaissance. Though it's not really near much so you'd probably need a car.

Last year I worked remotely from the JW, the Marriott, Westin Lagunamar. I also worked remotely from the Hilton and Hyatt's in Playa Del Carmen. Aside from Thanksgiving week, things were relatively quiet. Now that Quintana Roo is back in the "orange" and the added requirements for negative covid test to return, the hotels will have lower occupancy rates.

Hotel La Semilla in PDC is not on the beach. It's a pretty small hotel squeezed in between some restaurants and shops. It's just a few blocks from some of the more well known beach clubs in PDC. Lots of good restaurants right on the street in front of the hotel and it's about a 5 minute walk to 5th avenue.

The Aloft in Tulum just opened. It's not near the beach, but it's also not all that close to town. The road to get to the beach or into town is very busy and not really walkable. You'd need a car or scooter to get around.

I will probably try the new Residence Inn on my next trip.
