Sorry to hear about your experience.

I have stayed at the Marriott Copley and always had excellent customer service. In fact, I rate it as one of the best Marriott's on a CS level even though it has a large convention crowd.

On the timer issue, Marriott didn't set the timer. The previous guest did.

IMHO, 500 miles/points seems more than appropriate.
