I've always been confused by the rules not to mention it doesnt help that lounge has incorrectly denied access to many people.

Am I looking at that right then that the international F flight has to either depart or arrive at Lax to use the Lax Qantas F lounge ?
This is the oneworld policy
  • First and Business Class customers connecting on the same day of travel, or before 6am the following day, can access the lounge when travelling between an international long haul (a oneworld international long haul flight is defined as an international flight marketed and operated by any oneworld carrier with a scheduled flight time longer than 5 hours) and an international short haul or domestic flight (and vice-versa).
You could access the QF F Lounge in LAX if you are;
1- Flying out of LAX in First Class ( American Airlines Domestic First isn't eligible )
2- You hold oneworld Emerald status and flying out of LAX on a oneworld operated flight. ( There are limitations for AAdvantage members on AA flights but no limitations for OWE's on other programs )
3- If you are flying on a same-day international long-haul flight ( over 5 hours ) from another airport & flying out of LAX on a short haul flight ( under 5 hours ) -> Example: LAX-DFW-FRA on AA with LAX-DFW in Domestic First ( Business ) & DFW-FRA in First.
4- If you are arriving on a same-day international long-haul flight ( over 5 hours ) at LAX & flying out of LAX on a short haul flight ( under 5 hours ) in a lower cabin -> Example: HKG-LAX-YVR with CX in First & the latter leg on AA Domestic First ( Business ).

LAX-DOH ( long-haul J ) & DOH-MCT ( short haul F ) does not qualify for QF F Lounge access at LAX.
Again, I don't want to be mean, however, I don't know why are you worrying about this 10 months in advance where we don't have any single clue which lounges would be open or if there would be policy changes by then.

If I search for international destinations for a revenue ticket and its a market AA doesnt service it always says "no flights available". I have to go to "use miles" and then do an Award ticket. I wasnt aware I can purchase through AA a revenue fare on a different airline. I've never done that. That would certainly be advantageous compared to doing it on the partner airline site, at least during Covid it would. I rather have AA vouchers than QR or CX... It has to be a code share flight to buy a rev ticket on AA for a partner airline?
There might be limitations on tickets when you purchase with partners. AA must market QR's service on that route and the routing restrictions for that fare should allow QR fares. This case depends on the exact fare and it might depend between fares and routings so there is no precise answer when you could purchase a QR revenue itinerary through AA or not. The previous poster has purchased an AA issued ticket on flights that AA codeshared the QR flights which might not be the case for all routes.

* By the way, QR offer free refunds on all tickets ( back to your original method of payment ), so having a QR voucher shouldn't be an issue unless you specifically request one.
