I looked back through my historical flight log and looks like I took this route twice in 2011 when it was operated by CO, both by a 737-700 (N17730 and N39726 - both still flying for UA today). Looks like they are keeping the same times on SNA-HNL (departing around 9). I think the flight initially flew SNA-HNL in the morning and turned around in the afternoon initially and then at some point HNL-SNA became a redeye.
Beats having to fly to LAX any day if headed to the OC area...
During the pandemic it's not been so bad driving LAX to OC. But yeah, in general, etc.

Indeed, that was my thought too: timing is ideal for O/D.
