Do this means there are 7 seats in J (Business class paid) but I thought that VIP03 pulls from D and it is showing 5 in D so any reason why I shouldn't have cleared by now?
7 is the max seats shown on the system as available in a given class e.g. there could still be 20 seats left in J. Personally I would be very confident of DFW-LGW clearing if they are still selling I inventory with less than a week to go. The return is a bit far out to judge yet but others have posted in the past that MIA-MAD is a tough route for upgrades.

With respect to monitoring upgrade requests isn't the easiest way to just monitor your flights' seat maps and if your coach seat becomes available then the upgrade has cleared.
