Just a question: What is the impact if ONE wingtip folds up/down uncommanded in flight vs the gear (not) deploying? And please don't say: "can't happen". Just a gentle reminder on the 767 reversers which "could under no circumstances deploy in flight" or the DC10 cargo doors where "it is physical impossible to unlock in flight".
It is just the nature of things in engineering... if things can move and malfunction, there is chance they will do sooner or later. And looking at Boeings track record in the last few years, I'm putting not too much confidence in them.
