The joint press release by Dijaya Land and Development and Hilton World Wide dating July 30, 2013 indicated expected opening date of Hilton Okinawa Kin as 2016. Then on Nov. 10, 2016 Timothy Soper, the vice president of operations for Japan, Korea, and Micronesia at Hilton made a statement at the press conference that Hilton Okinawa Kin will open on 2019.

I really could not find any information regarding why is the delay, but same time I could not find any information regarding this project being frozen or canceled. So I dug in little further... I went to City of Kin website and went through town hall meeting minutes. One of the town hall meeting last year it was mentioned about the delay of the resort hotel plan. There mentioned about the beach area maintenance. It sounds like the area was the U.S. Marine Corp training area, which the area was not maintained in natural state nor the area was maintained for general public. It sounds like it is taking a lot longer to transform lands of former military training area into something resort hotels can be built. Any case, it sounds like the plan for the hotel is still on the table.
Very detailed explanation, thanks!

I'm looking forward to the Miyako location, though I'm a bit wary of a huge hotel on such a tiny island... Moderator, feel free to move / split if off topic.
