I would point out that, during the height of travel restrictions last year, the UK government operated many repatriation flights for UK nationals, so it would be perverse to suggest that a US national that wishes to be repatriated to the US cannot do so. You would not be the only one leaving:

Unfortunately, the government's current agenda and social attitudes are extremely harsh on immigrants. I would describe the UK of 2020-21 as a country unrecognisably different to the UK I moved to over a decade ago.
