The Palmer House is in foreclosure and has been having (not very productive) talks with its lenders. The chances of it closing for good are slim because Blackstone remains in Hilton's corner and is known to be looking to buy hotels out of foreclosure. However, that is not to say that there will not be any disruption. Until COVID came along, hotels rarely closed suddenly. However, re-brandings were not unheard of and Hilton has had several hotels leave over the past few years and has given little to no notice to guests. Similarly, hotels have closed on short notice for sports teams to create bubbles - e.g. the Waldorf Orlando.

Hilton's reservation system will not cancel reservations for the same date at different hotels. However, they will show no mercy if you forget to cancel one during the penalty-free window.

Existential questions aside: the Palmer House is gorgeous. It just had a major update and renovation; hence, its huge debt burden. The Drake is very nice, but its grandeur is dated, in some ways rundown.
