It is because the baggage holds are located on the right and the jetways and stairs would get in the way. Also, the galleys are located on the right of the plane (on narrowbodies) so that is where the catering and cleaning folks park their vehicles.
I have never boarded a 757 in a door other then 2L in the scores of times I have flown one.
