The difference now is that AA (and probably DL and UA) are pricing domestic F to a price point that will be attractive to some coach flyers. As the price of F comes down that naturally may impact the product. Like replacing hot meals with cold snacks.
9/11 changed air travel forever-no more complimentary meals in coach, fees for checking bags, more seats put into the aircraft. COVID will do the same-making domestic first class a more affordable experience but replaces free upgrades with actual revenue, elimination of change fees, limited to no beverage service in coach.
