B fare and miles or Z fare for 150% EQM

Im trying to figure out if there is an advantage from an EQM standpoint of going with a higher price Z fare ($400-600 more) or a lower price B fare and upgrade with miles. Im making an assumption that I can find upgrade space and plenty of miles to upgrade with. Is there any adantage from an EQM standpoint to go Z fare, or use some miles and save some $$$ with a B fare?
