Probably some truth to that but it's a tourist destination and hotel chains have historically required a lot of points in Greece. Marriott has four properties on Crete and three of the four are in their top Cat. 8 group and one is a Cat. 7.

In my opinion if they don't have beach access this place won't be on my list of places to visit. I know the beaches on Crete are not great but you need to offer some beach for a high-end resort.
