Rittenhouse Square hotel reportedly closing in April
The Sheraton Rittenhouse Square Hotel, which opened in 1999 in the lower floors of the Rittenhouse Regency apartment building at 18th and Locust Streets, may be closing. David Newhart, president of the Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association, said he received a courtesy call from GF Management Inc., which operates that Sheraton, saying the Center City hotel would close April 1. Peter R. Tyson, a longtime Philadelphia hotel consultant, said he had been told that the hotel would be closed and converted into condominiums. A GF Management official, through an assistant, declined to comment. The 193-room hotel is touted as environmentally friendly, using recycled, nontoxic materials for construction and a fresh-air ventilation system.
