I'd say it's an upgrade. The 717 and A220 are the only good mainline aircraft in coach. An E175 would be better still.
With middle seat blocking, the 717 and A220 are actually LESS desirable in economy right now since if you're on the A/B side, there is no guarantee of seat blocking. If on an E-175, if you're on the C/D side, same issue. The same issue persists on the 767 and A330 in Y with middle-seat blocking. Right now in Y, 3x3 layouts are more preferable then 2x2 or 2x3 layouts.
