Not sure what you mean by "called Air Canada" - "called aeroplan" - they are one and the same? Do you mean called the Credit Card issuer? Regardless, Buddy Pass is obviously booked through AC only.

Regarding calling Air Canada and Aeroplan, I have 2 different numbers on the back of my elite card.
The AC reservations line is open 24hrs while the AP line is open 7:00-midnight. Even though AC owns AP, it seems that they still have somewhat specific functions.
