No one has an answer to this ? I searched on AA website and it doesn't have any info about what happens to seat fees when an award ticket is cancelled. The miles and taxes are refunded to the original account and card used.
I had 2 flights I canceled last oct, both were Web Specials with MCE seats paid for. First flight had been changed by AA and the Miles were put back into my account instantly and the Taxes , Fees and MCE charges were back on my card a week or so later. Second flight didn't have any changes miles were back to me instantly and taxes and fees shortly there after, I assumed I wasn't going to get the MCE $ back as I initiated the cancelation, But I went to Prefunds and put in a refund request, and the MCE fees were returned to me in the form of an eVoucher YMMV?
