Don't worry... AI staff are generally there to herd international pax along. You'll have to do your security again and immigration in DEL then. I would be very surprised if the DOM - INT connection is closed given the amount of pax that usually go through it daily. They have separate paths for immigration at DEL and immigration at origin (who only have to go through security) so it's generally well organized and marked.

Why did you have to renter the terminal with your UK-UA connection? Did UK check your luggage through/give BP for EWR or beyond or did you have to do that at the DEL UA counter?
