Just get me that bowl of fruit please..
In my books, whenever I get something out of expectation expressing gratitude, I am appreciative of it - be it if it's suitable for me or not. For items that are not to my liking if I know that it will be appreciative for someone else (family/friends) I will give it to them (which they will be appreciative too of it) and if I think it will be wasted, I will either turn it down or in your case, you could ask for some fruits (which I am sure they would certainly be happy to provide you if they have it).
For these welcome gifts, the property will not be able to satisfy everyone's wishes - so I would say as long as there is a sign of recognition, it would always hit the right note with the right attitude.
Cheers!
