The only downside of dining on the "non-secure" side is returning through security. Big problem if you're on a short layover. Fortunately my friend was UA elite so we went to the short line.
Would have been disappointed to miss my flight, just to pop over to Encounters. Food while pricey, was surprisingly good for in-airport fare. Can't beat watching the flights.
